Administrator earns sports honor

     Mary Ann Hitchens, associate director of athletics, has been
awarded the National Association for Girls' and Women's Sports
Pathfinder Award for the state of Delaware.
     The Pathfinder Award, which honors those who advocate, recruit
and enhance opportunities for girls and women in sport leadership in
their states, was presented March 30, in Portland, Ore., at the
national convention of the American Alliance for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and Dance.
     Previous winners from the University are head women's volleyball
coach Barbara Viera and Barbara Kelly, professor of physical
education.
     Hitchens came to the University in 1959 and has served as head
women's basketball coach and head field hockey coach before becoming
associate director in 1989. She also served as president of the North
Atlantic Conference from 1992-94.
