Coaching minor to begin this fall
An 18-credit minor in coaching will be offered at the University
beginning in the fall semester to fill a need in area high schools for
skilled coaches, according to Loren Kline, associate professor of
physical education and program coordinator.
The minor will offer courses in anatomy and physiology; first
aid, safety and CPR; the principles of strength/conditioning, and
principles of coaching, including coaching
Course work is followed by a coaching practicum of 55 hours in
the student's chosen sport.
The minor is designed to attract students from other academic
majors throughout the University who have expertise in different
sports, Kline said.
Students applying for the minor in coaching science must have
completed at least one semester of full-time study at the University,
with a GPA of at least 2.25.
The deadline for applications is June 15.
