Former Soviet official, author to speak in the Rodney Room
Edward A. Ivanian, a former Soviet official and author of books
about U.S. history and U.S./Russian relations, will speak on "The
Future of the Russian Democracy," at 7:30 p.m., Monday, May 8, in the
Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center.
The free, public lecture is sponsored by the Office of
International Programs and Special Sessions, the departments of
Foreign Languages and Literatures, History and Political Science and
International Relations, and the Delaware chapter of People to People
International.
Ivanian also will speak at a free, public colloquium on "Changing
Russian Perceptions of the U.S. and Their Implications for U.S.-
Russian Relations" at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 8, in Room 435 of Ewing
Hall.
A 1954 graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International
Relations, Ivanian headed the Western European and American Department
of the U.S.S.R. Ministry of Culture. With the late American impresario
Sol Hurok, he helped establish cultural exchanges between the U.S.S.R.
and the U.S.
In 1960, he became second secretary of the American Department of
the U.S.S.R. Foreign Ministry, and from 1961-1971, he served as press
officer of the United Nations Office of Public Information.
Currently an official of the Institute of U.S.A. and Canada,
Ivanian is a member of the International Advisory Board of the
American People Ambassador Program of People to People International
and is president of the Moscow chapter of People to People
International.
He is the author and co-author of 15 books on United States
history and the presidency and U.S.S.R./U.S. relations. These have
been published in the U.S.S.R. and abroad, with more than 2 million
copies sold overall.
