Faculty Senate elects officers

The University Faculty Senate merged two departments at its May
meeting and eliminated a major that has not had any students in the
last several years.
Senators agreed unanimously to disestablish the major in textile
science within the College of Human Resources and to merge the
Departments of Food Science and Animal Science and Agricultural
Biochemistry. The new department will be known as the Department of
Animal and Food Sciences.
In other business, elections were held and committee appointments
approved. New senate officers are Marian Lief Palley, political
science and international relations, president elect; Michael Keefe,
mechanical engineering, vice president; and Thomas Angell,
mathematical sciences, secretary.
Charles Mason, entomology and applied ecology, and Carol Denson,
textiles, design and consumer economics, were elected to the Committee
on Committees, with Denson as chairperson.
New members elected to the Committee on Rules are Theodore Davis,
political science and international relations, and Robert Warren,
urban affairs and public policy. The new terms take effect with the
start of the fall term.
