BSU Pageant
The Black Student Union will sponsor its annual Black Student
Union Pageant to name a new Mr. and Miss BSU on Thursday, May 11, in
Pearson Hall. The event is open to the public.
A talent expo, featuring a cappella groups, rap, soul and rhythm
and blues performers, will be held during the pageant proceedings.
For information on time and admission price, call DaLetha Mcrae,
the current Miss BSU, at 837-8219 or Jamie Wise, the freshman
president of the BSU, at 837-2467.
Entrance closed
The ground floor entrance on the southeast side of Lammot du Pont
Laboratory, adjacent to Alison Hall and Facilities Management, will be
closed to pedestrians for approximately 10 weeks while modifications
are being made.
Pedestrians may enter the building from the south side, using the
first-floor entrance near Memorial Hall.
Lecture program
Shirley Brice Heath, linguist and anthropologist from the
departments of English and Linguistics at Stanford University, will
present a program at 1 p.m., Thursday, May 1, in Room 204 of the
Willard Hall Education Building.
Heath will present "Challenging Multicultural Universals: A
Global Look at the Youth Perspective," a look at the challenge of
multicultural and language policies in education from the perspective
of youth in several countries, including the United States.
Immigration, migrant labor and school to work concerns are
associated with this topic
Student parking
Students wishing to register by mail for fall parking permits may
pick up a mail-in packet, beginning May 8, at Public Safety or at the
Student Services Building. In-person registration for the fall
semester begins Aug. 21.
The sale of summer permits will begin May 30.
Honorary degrees
The University Faculty Senate Advisory Committee on Honorary
Degrees is seeking nominations from the University community for
consideration by the Board of Trustees' Committee on Honorary Degrees.
Written nominations, accompanied by supporting materials, should
be submitted by May 15 to Pierre D. Hayward, vice president and
University secretary, 132 Hullihen Hall.
