Student chemists win at ISC
Top awards recently received by UD chemistry and biochemistry
majors, who presented research papers at the 1995 Intercollegiate
Student Chemists (ISC) Convention, continue a tradition of excellence
by University of Delaware students there.
From 1949-1995, the University is second, with 54 award winners,
just behind Franklin and Marshall College with 56.
At this year's convention, held April 8 at Muhlenberg College in
Allentown, Pa., senior Raymond C. Trievel received a first-place award
in the biochemistry division; senior Dilip P. Modi received a first-
place award in the organic chemistry division; and junior Stamatios
Stamoulis received a second-place award in the analytical chemistry
division.
Junior Krista M. King also presented a paper.
According to Alumni Distinguished Prof. John Burmeister, who
compiled the statistics, UD student achievements at this annual event
are of even more interest when records of Ph.D.-granting institutions
are compared.
In such a comparison, UD is first with 54 award recipients, while
the other institutions with award-winners include Temple University,
12; Georgetown University, 9; and Lehigh University, 6.
The ISC convention will be held next year at Ursinus College, and
the University of Delaware will host the event in 1997.
