New academic bowl club to sponsor tournament
The University's new Academic Competition Club (ACC) will hold an
intramural academic question-and-answer tournament at 9:30 a.m.,
Saturday, May 13, at the Ewing, Kirkwood and Blue and Gold rooms in
the Perkins Student Center.
The tournament is open to all undergraduate and graduate
students, and students may register in teams of four, or individuals
may register to be placed on an available team. The team fee is $20.
Registration forms are available at the Student Activities
Office, the Honors Center and from Jason Remy (telephone: 837-2895; e-
mail: remy@strauss; address: 411 Dickinson C). Completed forms should
be returned by May 5 to the Honors Center or Remy.
A competition for faculty also will be part of the tournament. To
participate or volunteer as a judge or moderator, faculty should
contact Douglas DeLorenzo (telephone 837-2717 or e-mail
lorenzo@strauss).
ACC was established by high scoring players from the University's
fall intramural College Bowl tournament. The players formed a nine-
member team and competed successfully in invitational tournaments,
defeating such schools as the University of Pennsylvania, and
finishing fourth place in the College Bowl regional championships.
The group later decided to form ACC to encourage the formation of
a number of teams to represent Delaware in academic tournaments at
other colleges and universities, such as those run by College Bowl
International and the Academic Competition Foundation. The group also
plans eventually to host tournaments at the University.
