What is a "distributed learning environment"? What is "distance
education"? And what is the "Higher Education/K-12 Connection"?
You can listen to experts discuss these and related issues May 2
and 4 at screenings of two videotapes from the Institute for Academic
Technology (IAT). The tapes will be shown from 1:30-4:30 p.m. in 011
Smith.
"Distributed Learning Environments: An Integrating Model for
Distance Education," to be shown on May 2, features Kathryn Conway,
IAT senior analyst; Robert Dunham, dean of the Commonwealth Education
System, Pennsylvania State University, and Linda Harasim, professor of
communication at Simon Frasier University, British Columbia. They
explore the changing relationships among students and institutions,
interactive learning, teaching online and the use of e-mail and
bulletin boards in education.
The May 4 broadcast, "Higher Education/K-12 Connection: Using
Technology to Assist Public Schools," explores the possibilities for
improving public school education through technology and focuses on
the role that higher education and state and federal government play.
Key speakers are William H. Graves, director of IAT; Colleen S.
Kennedy, professor of educational studies, University of Utah; Jane
Smith Patterson, adviser to the governor of North Carolina for policy,
budget and technology; Anne-Lee Verville, IBM Education Businesses;
