Second phase of senior center fundraising drive under way

A kickoff reception for Phase II of the Newark Senior Center's
fundraising campaign was held April 7 in the Bob Carpenter Club of the
Carpenter Center.
According to Margaret Catts, the center's executive director, it
was especially fitting that the kickoff reception for phase II of the
fundraising drive take place at a University site. Since the beginning
of the center's campaign, there has been continuous and close
involvement between the center and this institution, she said.
University students and faculty also are involved with the Newark
Senior Center in educational and professional roles, including several
colleges.
The University also has helped the current building effort by
donating 3.5 acres of land for the new center.
Catts said the first part of the campaign reached its $1.8
million goal, and the second phase's $800,000 goal is expected to be
met by June.
The building, located on Marrows Road, is to be completed by
February.
