Listed below are Employee Development classes offered this spring. For
additional information, call 831-2171. Copies of the Employee
Development insert, printed in the Feb. 2 issue of UpDate, also are
available.


                     FOR ALL UNIVERSITY EMPLOYEES

Advanced Defensive Driving Course
     "Coaching the Experienced Driver" is for those with several years
of driving experience but who may need to freshen-up their driving
skills. Through films, slides, discussion and individual work, the
program gives the driver important cues that can be used in daily
driving to reduce the number of near misses or actual accidents.
Employees who complete the program receive a 15 percent discount on
their insurance (not in addition to the 10 percent from basic
Defensive Driving).
     NOTE:  There is a $15 fee for this class.  NO TELEPHONE
REGISTRATION WILL BE TAKEN FOR THIS WORKSHOP. Registration must be
made by mail and accompanied by a check, made payable to "Delaware
Safety Council."  Send payment to Employee Development, 51 East Main
St.

     Audience: All employees and their dependents
     Prerequisite: Participants must have completed the basic
Defensive Driving class.


                        FOR SALARIED STAFF ONLY

Salaried Staff Career Certificate Program
     This is a six-part series for salaried staff highlighting a
systematic approach for assessing interest in career development and
formulating strategies to achieve those goals. Utilizing resources
available through the Office of Employee Services and other University
departments, participants will explore the steps involved in creating
a personalized plan for career enrichment.
        Seminar 1: Introduction to Career Planning
        Seminar 2: Resume Writing
        Seminar 3: Overview of Classification System and Career
                   Matrices
        Seminar 4: UD Educational Benefits
        Seminar 5: The Employment Process/Interviewing Tips and
                   Techniques
        Seminar 6: Goal Setting/ Wrap-Up
   The certificate program is filled for the spring semester. However,
   interested employees should contact the office to place their names
   on a waiting list for additional certificate program sessions,
   which will be offered again in the fall.


                  FOR PROFESSIONAL AND SALARIED STAFF

ADA Seminars
     In 1990, Congress enacted the Americans with Disabilities Act
(ADA), which prohibits discrimination against individuals with
disabilities in employment, public transportation, telecommunications
and access to public programs and services. This includes access to
public and private college and university programs and services. The
Employee Services staff, in conjunction with ADA coordinator, is
offering a seminar to inform supervisiors of the ADA's employment
provisions.

registration hotline at 831-8725. Participants will be notified of
their enrollment by a course confirmation letter approximately two
weeks prior to the workshop date.
