COLA accredits health lab

The University of Delaware Student Health Service Laboratory has
met all criteria for accreditation by the Commission on Office
Laboratory Accreditation (COLA).
According to Student Health Service director Joseph Siebold, the
laboratory has earned COLA accreditation as a result of a long-term
commitment to provide quality service to its patients. COLA
accreditation, he said, is given only to laboratories that apply rigid
standards of quality in day-to-day operations, demonstrate continued
accuracy in the performance of proficiency testing and pass a rigorous
on-site laboratory survey.
The Health Service Laboratory carries out basic tests for
students, such as complete blood cells counts, throat cultures and
urinalyses.
COLA is a nationally recognized, clinical laboratory
accreditation organization. Approved by the federal government, it is
sponsored by the American Academy of Family Physicians, the American
Society of Internal Medicine, the American Medical Association and the
College of American Pathologists.
