Shakespearean actor to take stage in Georgetown, Newark
David Howey, well-known British Shakespearean actor, director
and teacher, will perform Everything and Nothing, a program of
Shakespearean pieces and theatrical anecdotes, in Georgetown and
Newark during this month.
Howey, currently a visiting professor at the University, will
perform at 2:30 p.m. and 7 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, in Room 529 of
the Higher Education Building on the Delaware Technical and Community
College campus in Georgetown.
He will perform the same program again at 7:30 p.m. Thursday,
April 20, in the Hen Zone of the Perkins Student Center. That
performance is scheduled as part of Shakespeare's 431st birthday
celebration. A reception will be held after the performance.
All three performances are free and open to the public.
Howey was a member of the National Theatre Company under Sir
Laurence Olivier and appeared with Olivier and Joan Plowright in The
Merchant of Venice. He appeared with Christopher Plummer in Jonathan
Miller's production of Danton's Death and worked with Sir Anthony
Hopkins and Derek Jacobi in A Woman Killed with Kindness. He was the
original archbishop in Tom Stoppard's Jumpers with Diana Rigg and
Michael Hordern. In 1974, he toured the U.S. and appeared on Broadway
with the National Theatre's all-male production of As You Like It,
playing Oliver.
In addition to numerous Shakespearean and other roles, he is an
occasional director and has taught at the Guildhall School of Music
and Drama. His films include Roughcut with Burt Reynolds; and Just
Another Secret, with Beau Bridges.
