'Driving Miss Daisy' takes to road
The Black Student Theatre will present a traveling production of
Driving Miss Daisy in Newark, Wilmington and Georgetown, and in
Carneys Point and Mays Landing, N.J., in April and May.
The production opens at 8 p.m., Thursday, April 13, in Wolf Hall.
Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for the general public.
The production continues in Newark on April 14 and 15 at the same
time and location and returns to the campus on May 7 for a performance
in the Bacchus Theatre of the Perkins Student Center.
On Friday, May 5, the play will be performed at the theatre of
Delaware Technical and Community College in Georgetown.
This performance is sponsored by the Office of Alumni and
University Relations, and tickets are free to students and $3 for the
general public.
Other performances are scheduled on Friday, April 28, at Salem
Community College in Carneys Point, N.J.; on Monday, May 1, at
Oakcrest High School in Mays Landing, N.J.; and on Saturday, May 6, at
the Christina Cultural Arts Center in Wilmington.
The Black Student Theatre (BST) was founded at the University in
1992 to provide the campus and surrounding community with an
opportunity to explore theatre from an African-American perspective.
BST mounts two major productions in the fall and spring of each year.
The cast and crew of Driving Miss Daisy includes director Lowell
C. Matthews, a senior business administration major from Knoxville,
Tenn., who also portrays Hoke; Elyssa Kaplan, assistant director, who
is a freshman neuroscience major from Scotia, N.Y.; Michael Rogers, a
criminal justice major from Peekskill, N.Y., who appears as Boolie;
and Dionne Daisey of Dover, a junior double major in communication and
English, who appears as Miss Daisy.
