Writing conference next month

     The University Writing Center will be host of the seventh annual
Mid-Atlantic Writing Centers Association conference, "The Place of
Writing," scheduled from 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Friday, April 7 at Arsht
Hall on the Wilmington Campus.
     Sessions will focus on the teaching of writing, including the use
of computers, using the Internet for writing projects, making the
transition from high school to college writing, teaching writing to
students with English as a second language and to those with learning
disabilities, applying composition theory to writing centers and
writing-across-the- curriculum programs, developing models for high
school and college writing centers and training writing teachers.
     Byron Stay, president of the National Writing Centers Association
and chairperson of the rhetoric and writing department of Mount St.
Mary's College in Maryland, will give the keynote address, entitled
"Finding a Place in the Writing Center."
     Anyone interested in the teaching of writing is invited to
