UD, Oxford debaters to argue about England's entry into U.S.
A debating team of students from Oxford University in England
will join forces with student debaters from the University of Delaware
to argue both sides of the question: "This House Would Make England
The 51st State of America."
Two UD students and two Oxford students will make up each side of
the free public debate, which will be held at 8 p.m., Wednesday, April
5, in the Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center.
British debate style is different from American style, and this
debate will incorporate an Americanized version of the British.
Presiding officer will be Robert Leamon, a UD graduate student
who is an alumnus of the Imperial College, London. Coordinator for the
annual event is Zanetta Norris, a sophomore from Newark.
American debaters include R. Hayden Hurst, a freshman from
Hockessin; Michael Marcus, a senior from East Meadow, N.Y.; Adil
Saleem, a freshman from Philadelphia; and Jamie Wise, a freshman from
Wilmington. All were selected for the debate by a faculty and student
panel.
Oxford students participating include Robert Palmer, Baron
Richard Von Crowder, Rufus Black and Rod Clayton.
The debate is sponsored by the Student Center Programs Advisory
Board . For more information, call 831-1296.
