On the job

I work the slide video projectors and VCR in the booths behind
the classrooms at Kirkbride [Lecture Hall]. There are four other
people who work for me. Someone is always here, from 7:30 a.m. to 10
p.m. As long as there are classes, this building is monitored.
You have to have some audio-video knowledge for the job, because
there's a lot that we have to do. It gets pretty hectic when we have
to set up for every class in the 15 minutes between each one. The
professor controls everything from the podium, but we can easily be
reached when there's a problem because there are phones in every
classroom and many in the booths. The TV monitors in the office allow
us to see what is being projected on all the screens, so we can
immediately spot a problem and fix it before a professor calls us for
help.
I have been at the University for 15 years, but I've been in
Kirkbride for the past two. I have worked as a computer techician for
the Instructional Technology Center. Ever job has its good points and
bad points, but I love this one because of the versatilitiy.
