Letter from the VP for Employee Relations
To: Professional and Salaried Staff
From: Maxine Colm,
Vice President for Employee Relations
Subject: Performance Appraisal Program, 1994-1995
Date: March 23
Each year, we ask that supervisors provide professional and
salaried staff with an appraisal of their past year's performance. The
process not only provides supervisors with an opportunity to review
the job performance of employees within their units but also with a
mechanism for establishing mutually agreed upon goals for the coming
year.
As you know, we have redesigned the evaluation process to provide
greater interaction between supervisor and employee. Completion of a
Self-Appraisal Worksheet assists professional and salaried staff in
identifying their accomplishments; they are also asked to set new
performance goals and objectives and to identify strategies for career
development. Supervisors then comment in narrative fashion about the
material contained on the worksheet and may, where indicated, identify
areas that need improvement.
To expedite the evaluation process, appraisal forms for both
salaried and professional staff, are available on computer disk. Disk
copies were provided last year to each unit's Computer Resource
Person. By returning the disk to the Employee Services office, each
unit can have their disk reformatted with this year's Performance
Appraisal form. Additionally, the Performance Appraisal form can be
located on U-Discover! (Gopher), under Employee Information and then
down-loaded to disk. Paper appraisal forms also are available. Please
call Robert Martin, assistant vice president for employee relations,
if you have any questions concerning the appraisal process or the
securing of forms (831-8309).
I appreciate your continuing support for the University's
appraisal process and urge you to take advantage of the computer
systems that are now in place. EVALUATION FORMS MUST BE COMPLETED AND
SUBMITTED TO EMPLOYEE SERVICES NO LATER THAN APRIL 28, 1995.
