A new UNIX newsgroup helps foreign community
Students and visiting scholars arriving at the University from
other countries have questions on everything from immigration and
taxes UNIX newsgroup, "udel.foreign," has been created with the
specific needs of these students and scholars in mind. "udel.foreign"
serves as a forum for discussing issues relevant to living in a
distant land.
Until now, Arup Sohel Khan, a computer and information sciences
graduate student from Bangladesh, said students have not had a
consistent way to reach other members of the foreign community.
"The newsgroup was set up so that foreign students could
communicate with each other immediately," Khan said.
He said he sees udel.foreign as a forum where students can share
their experiences at the University. He thinks the newsgroup "will be
a good thing if people start using it."
"Members of the UD foreign community can expect better access to
pertinent information," said Mary Politakis of foreign student and
scholar services. "Whenever we have any news or information, it will
be posted in the newsgroup."
