Help Desk answers around the clock
Have you ever needed to find out the right telephone number for
dialing in with your modem, Help Desk? Starting March 6, you can get
that information and much more with the help of a new automated
attendant.
For around-the-clock answers to questions on passwords and PINS,
computing site hours and modem dial-up numbers, call the Help Desk at
831-6000.
"We've taken the information most frequently requested and found
a way to streamline the process of making that information available,"
said Kate Webster, user services.
Of course, you will still be able to reach a Help Desk consultant
during office hours (see below)-by staying on the line or by pressing
0 to reach a consultant.
When consultants are on duty and you call 831-6000, the automated
attendant will present you with the following options:
"You have reached the Help Desk. If you are calling for modem
telephone numbers, press 1. For computing site hours, press 2. For
information about PINs or UNIX passwords, press 3. For help with
hardware or software purchases, press 4. At any time, you can press 0
and reach a consultant."
"It's our hope that users will now more quickly find the
information they need, and consultants will be available to help
people with non-routine questions." Webster said.
After regular hours and on weekends, you can also call if you
need to disconnect from a session on MVS, want to check on the status
of the central systems or wish to leave a message about a question or
problem for a consultant.
"Since this is a new way of serving the University community, we
welcome feedback from callers," Webster said. "It's our desire to use
the system to help put people on the right track."
