Reception tonight for women artists
Motive and Theme: Women Create Art," the 1995 Delaware Women's
Conference art exhibit 24 in Clayton Hall.
The exhibition showcases the work of 26 women artists working in
the Delaware community in a diverse array of media that includes
painting, drawing, photography, metals, paper, clay, wood and fibers.
The exhibition is designed to explore the forces that move artists to
create.
To enhance the viewers' close observation, questioning and
discussion, the curators have divided the exhibition into five
sections: Repeating Patterns from the Past into the Present, Seeking
an Inner Voice, The Useful Becomes the Beautiful, Cultivating a
Personal Relationship with the World and A Vision of Humanity in the
Portrait of One.
An opening reception will be held from 7-9 tonight, March 2, in
Clayton Hall. Voices of a Different Dream, an ensemble of four women,
will perform at 8 p.m., interweaving original poetry and music in an a
cappella format.
During the opening reception, and the Women's Conference on March
4, bids will be taken for the works of art in silent action. The
artists participating in the exhibition are donating pieces of their
work, with proceeds going to Martha's Carriage House, a nonprofit
shelter operated by Child Inc. for abused women and children.
