Three new members join University Board of Trustees
Donald R. Brunner, Marvin S. Gilman and Mervin J. Richard have
joined the University's Board of Trustees.
Brunner was elected by the board, Gilman was appointed by
Delaware Gov. Thomas R. Carper and Richard serves ex officio as the
new master of the Delaware State Grange.
Brunner is senior vice president of J.P. Morgan & Co. Inc., the
parent company of Morgan Guaranty Trust Co., and is a senior vice
president of J.P. Morgan Delaware and J.P. Morgan Services Inc.
Brunner, who received his bachelor's degree from Delaware in
1966, is a national director of the Financial Executives Institute.
Currently, he is president of the Delaware Bankers Association. He
chairs the UD College of Business and Economics Visiting Committee,
and, in 1993, received the college's Award of Excellence.
Gilman is a professor emeritus in the College of Urban Affairs
and Public Policy and is chairman emeritus of the board of directors
of the National Housing Conference.
He was elected to the National Housing Hall of Fame in 1984, and,
in 1994, was honored as the National Housing Conference Person of the
Year.
President of Metropolitan Executive Corp. and Gilman Development
Co., two Wilmington-based building and development organizations,
Gilman is a graduate economist and lawyer, and he became a home
builder more than 40 years ago.
In 1980, President Jimmy Carter named Gilman to a fourth
successive term to the 15-person board of directors of Fannie Mae, the
Federal National Mortgage Association. From 1983-1991, he served as
chairman of the board of trustees of the AFL-CIO Housing Investment
Trust.
In January 1995, Gilman and his wife, Muriel, received the Josiah
Marvel Cup from the Delaware State Chamber of Commerce in recognition
of their outstanding community service. It was the 45th presentation
of the award, but the first time a husband and wife were recipients.
Richard was elected as the new master of the Delaware State
Grange in December.
He served as assistant steward and steward of the Delaware State
Grange for 12 years, and he has held several offices in the Kent
County Pomona Grange.
Richard grew up in Marydel, Md., and was employed by Southern
States Dover Petroleum. He later worked for Suburban Propane in Dover
and retired from there as service manager in 1991.
His son is a University of Delaware alumnus.
