Awards designed to further women's studies, scholarship
The Office of Women's Affairs and the Commission on the Status of
Women are sponsoring several awards to further women's studies and
women's participation in scholarly activities:
* STUDENT TRAVEL AWARDS encourage all graduate and
undergraduate students to present scholarly papers,
participate in other activities dealing with women's issues
and support their participation in professional activities.
Maximum award is $100, and matching department funds are
required. Deadline is April 1.
* SPECIAL TRAVEL AWARDS encourage faculty and professionals to
present scholarly papers, participate in other activities
dealing with women's issues and facilitate women faculty
members' and professionals' career development. The maximum
award is $200, and matching departmental funds are required.
Deadline is April 1.
* ARTHUR TRABANT AWARD FOR WOMEN'S EQUITY is given annually to
any individual, department, administrative unit or committee
that has contributed to equity for women at the University.
Considered are exemplary programs or curricula, implementing
innovative policies and procedures related to women's equity
and enhancing existing services to women. Deadline is March
20.
* STUDENT RESEARCH ON WOMEN CONFERENCE is open to all
University of Delaware students who have done research on
women or gender issues. A President's Award of $150 is given
to the winning paper in both the graduate and undergraduate
divisions. Deadline for proposal abstracts is 4:30 p.m.,
Monday, March 6, in the women's studies office, 333 Smith
Hall.
* BESSIE B. COLLINS AND MAE CARTER AWARDS are for returning
women students. The Bessie B. Collins Award of $200 is given
to a woman student who is over 25 years old, is a
matriculated junior, has a minimum grade point average of
3.0, demonstrates future promise, has contributed to the
University and community and has overcome special
difficulties. The Mae Carter Award of $250 is given to a
woman graduate or undergraduate student who has a minimum
grade point average of 3.0, has been of service to women on
campus and demonstrates a commitment to scholarship and the
values of Carter, who served as assistant provost for
women's affairs and was executive director of the Commission
on the Status of Women. Deadline for nominations is March
10.
