Auction nets $9,429 for trainers

The benefit auction held Feb. 19 at the UD/Boston University
basketball game to supporon campus netted $9,429, according to Keith
Handling, head athletic trainer and associate professor of athletics.
The fans were supportive, interested and bid actively, with the
1996 Super Bowl tickets attracting the most attention, Handling said.
Bill Bergey, a former professional football player and local coach,
served as auctioneer.
This will be the first high school trainer program offered at
Delaware. From June 22-24, more than 50 high school students will
learn about such topics as sports medicine, accident prevention and
taping. Darryl Conway, Delaware '93, and assistant trainer to the New
York Jets, co-chaired the event.
