International films to air

     The 1995 Spring International Film Series is being presented at
7:30 p.m., Sundays, through April, in 140  Smith Hall. Films, all free
and open to the public, include:
       Feb. 26-White (France/Poland/ Switzerland, 1993), the second
          part of Kieslowski's Three Colors trilogy in which a Polish
          hairdresser loses his wife, fakes his own death and frames
          her;
       March 5-Heavenly Creatures (New Zealand, 1994), a film about
          two teenagers whose retreat into fantasy culminates in
          murder;
       March 12-Samba Traore (Burkina Faso, 1993), a film about a
          thief who returns to his village and tries to redeem
          himself;
       March 19-Red (France/Poland/ Switzerland, 1994), the third part
          of Kieslowski's Three Colors trilogy, about a student's
          fascination with a misanthropic judge;
       April 9-Vanya on 42nd Street (U.S., 1994), an adaptation of the
          Chekhov play from the makers of My Dinner with Andre;
       April 16-Clerks (U.S., 1994), made for less than $30,000, a
          comedy about two friends working menial jobs that was named
          one of the year's 10 best films by Time magazine;
       April 23-Caro Diario (Italy, 1994),film director Nannie
          Moretti's observations on Flashdance, movie violence, and
          his own mortality, filled with funny vignettes; and
       April 30-A special program featuring the best in Japanese
          animation on videotape.
     The film series is sponsored by the Faculty Senate Committee on
Cultural Activities and Public Events, the University Honors Program
