Hillel Center schedules events for Jewish Awareness Month
From Feb. 24-March 24, members of the Jewish community at the
University of Delaware will be participating in a worldwide
Celebration of Jewish Life.
During Jewish Awareness Month, a series of events are being
sponsored by Hillel, the Foundation for Jewish Campus Life, for both
members and nonmembers of the Hillel Center, located in the Abe and
Pearl Kristol Building, 47 West Delaware Ave.
A traditional Shabbat retreat will be conducted with KIRUV, a
group from Yeshiva University and the Stern College in New York City.
The program will include such topics as "Why be Jewish?," "Interfaith
Relationships" and "Preparing for the Holocaust Museum." The opening
dinner and service will begin at 6 p.m., Friday, Feb. 24, in the
Hillel Center, and the retreat continues through Saturday, Feb. 25.
The event is free for Hillel members and $4 for nonmembers. Call 453-

"Jews to the Game," a session of basketball, will be held on
Tuesday, Feb. 28. For information on the time and place, call 453-

A creative Havurah Jewish Shabbat retreat will be held in
Philadelphia on Saturday, March 4. The bus will leave the Hillel
Center at 9 a.m. and return that evening. Cost is $5 for non-Hillel
members.
A Hillel Bagel Brunch will be held at noon, Sunday, March 5, in
the Hillel Center. John Elzufon will speak on "A Jewish view of
Jesus."
"Five Weeks in Odessa" is the topic of a program at noon,
Tuesday, March 7, featuring Rabbi Ira Schiffer, of Beth Am Synagogue
in Baltimore. The rabbi of Temple Beth El in Newark from 1977-1987, he
will discuss his recent visit to Odessa. The program is open to Jewish
staff and faculty at the University. A light lunch will be provided.
Kosher-style brown bag is acceptable. There is no charge. Reservations
