Senate approves new degrees
At its February meeting, the University Faculty Senate approved a
new undergraduate degree leading to a bachelor's in environmental
engineering.
Although the Department of Civil Engineering has had a
concentration in environmental engineering for more than 20 years and
supports both master's and doctoral degrees in the subject, this is
the first time an undergraduate program has been offered.
The department also is changing its name to the Department of
Civil and Environmental Engineering.
In other business, the senate approved two graduate degrees in
applied mathematics, granted permanent status to the major in apparel
design within the College of Human Resources and gave provisional
approval to a new major leading to a bachelor's degree in Italian
education.
The senate also unanimously agreed to designate the week of April
16-23 as "Earth Week."
Earlier, several revisions to existing programs were passed
without discussion, including a new minor in coaching science to be in
place by next fall.
