Program receives $360,000 grant for UDUAP projects
The University of Delaware's University Affiliated Program for
Families and Developmental Disabilities (UDUAP) has received a four-
year federal grant of $360,000 to develop a comprehensive training
program for staff who work in programs that serve Delawareans with
developmental disabilities.
The program is being developed in cooperation with Delaware's
Health and Social Services Department, Division of Mental Retardation
(DMR), which will provide an additional $25,000 per year for the
project.
The training will be provided to mid-level management and direct
care staff who work in publicly and privately run programs throughout
Delaware and will help the Division of Mental Retardation implement
its new philosophy and model of service delivery in which services are
consumer driven, designed around the needs of the individual, and
enable greater consumer and family choice.
Initially, the grant will be used to train residential providers,
such as group homes, but the program will eventually encompass
vocational providers and staff at other agencies as well.
For more information, call the UDUAP at 831-4450.
