Preschool activities on video

The University of Delaware Laboratory Preschool is helping to
teach early childhood educators and caregivers across the nation as
well as on the campus.
For the second time, the preschool has been invited to
participate in an educational video series through the recommendation
of the National Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC).
Career Encounters was filmed last fall and has been shown nationally
as well as at the association's conference.
In January, the preschool was asked to participate in The Caring
for Our Children Video Project, sponsored by the NAEYC and the
American Academy of Pediatrics. These videos are based on health and
safety standards for out-of-home, child-care programs developed by the
academy and the American Public Health Association.
They will be used for training professionals and caregivers in
such areas as nutrition, programming and injury prevention.
According to Alice Eyman, director of the University Preschool,
the UD segment was concerned with playground safety and checking
playground equipment to make sure it is safe.
The crew also filmed the school's bi-level sandbox, which can
accommodate those in wheelchairs and was designed by University
mechanical engineering students.
The preschool's pet rabbit had its moment of fame as an example
of a properly contained and cared-for pet in the classroom. Another
segment filmed in the school involved first-aid equipment.
For its cooperation, the preschool will receive the series of
videos, which will be useful in the classroom and in workshops.
