Cavanaugh receives new post, Hoffecker to return to faculty

     Carol E. Hoffecker, Richards Professor of History and associate
provost for graduate studies, will return to full-time teaching and
research, effective June 30, Provost Melvyn D. Schiavelli announced
today.
     "Prof. Hoffecker has indicated her desire to return to full-time
faculty status, concentrating on her teaching and research. I am
grateful for her contributions as associate provost," Schiavelli said.
     John C. Cavanaugh, professor and chairperson of individual and
family studies, who this year is as an American Council on Education
fellow in the Office of the President, will serve as interim associate
provost beginning this summer.
     Hoffecker joined the Delaware faculty in 1970 and is an honors
graduate of the UD. She also holds a master's degree from Radcliffe
College and a doctorate from Harvard University. The author of
numerous books on Delaware, she most recently authored Beneath Thy
Guiding Hand: A History of Women at the University of Delaware.
     Cavanaugh, who joined the Delaware faculty in 1992, also is a UD
honors graduate with advanced degrees from the University of Notre
Dame. He is author of three books and numerous publications.
