Career Services employees honored for volunteer help
The University's Career Services Center received the 1994
Volunteer of the Year Award from Newark Day Nursery Association for
supporting that organization's People Helping People program.
Displaying the recognition plaque that will hang in the
University's Career Services Center in Raub Hall is Lynn Jacobson
(bottom, left). Sherrie Foti holds the awards plaque that remains in
the nursery and lists the present and past annual award winners. In
the second row (from left) are Mary Jo DiCampli, Cindy Holland and
Dottie Perillo, representing all the center's staff.
People Helping People began at the Newark Day Nursery in 1988 to
provide special assistance to several families of children who
attended the facility for child care during the holidays. At first,
four families were given clothing, toys and food.
In 1994, the program provided assistance to 11 families.
Donations have increased and now include furniture, Christmas trees,
new shoes for each family member and heating oil.
For the past three years, employees in the Career Services Center
have purchased new toys for the children of the families instead of
exchanging gifts.
The Newark Day Nursery Inc., on Barksdale Road, serves children
from age 1-12 years and is a United Way Agency. Several UD employees
are involved with the nursery as parents and as board members.
