1995 Salzburg Seminar fellowship is available
In recognition of the support received from the University of
Delaware for the past several years, the president of the Salzburg
Seminar in Austria has extended a Presidential Fellowship for tuition
for a member of the UD faculty to attend a seminar in 1995, according
to G. Arno Loessner, chairperson of the Salzburg Seminar selection
committee at the University.
The University also will assist with travel and related expenses.
Loessner, a policy fellow of the College of Urban Affairs and
Public Policy, first attended the Salzburg Seminar in 1977, and since
then, more than 20 faculty members have been fellows, using the
experience to enrich and internationalize their teaching.
Established in 1947, the Salzburg Seminar studies, at the highest
level, contemporary issues of worldwide scope, as well as significant
aspects of American society.
Interested faculty members may submit a proposal, not to exceed
two pages, explaining how the seminar would enhance their work at the
University.
This year's sessions and dates are "The European Union After
1966," March 18-25; "Higher Education: Institutional Structures for
the 21st Century," April 1-8; "The Economic, Social and Environmental
Impact of the Automobile," April 22-29; "Globalization of American
Popular Culture," May 20-27; "U.S. Foreign Policy in Asia: Adapting to
Change," June 16-23; "Involuntary Migration," July 8-15;
"Transnational Law: Intellectual Property Rights," July 29-Aug. 5;
"The Impact of the Media on Politics, Public Policy and World Events,"
Sept. 16-23; "Building and Sustaining Democracies: The Role of Non-
Governmental Organizations," Oct. 6-13; "Concepts and Challenges of
Leadership," Nov. 11-18; and "Preserving the National Heritage: The
Realities, the Politics, the Rewards," Dec. 2-9.
Each proposal foe sessions should be accompanied by a memo from
the department chairperson or dean and addressed to Loessner at Graham
Hall. The deadline is 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 15.
A Salzburg Seminar brochure, outlining the different sessions and
listing former fellows from the University, is in the Reserve Room of
the Morris Library.
