Parents' meeting
     Licensed psychologist Jay Ann Jemail will present a program on
"Learning Disabilities and the Family" at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 7, in
311 Willard Hall Education Building.
     The public is welcome to attend this free program, which is part
of the monthly College School parent meeting.


Washington shuttle
     The Washington, D.C., shuttle to the Library of Congress and the
Folger Library for faculty and graduate students will operate on
Fridays during the spring semester, starting Feb. 10. Reservations
must be made in advance by noon on Thursday of each week. Call Darlene

String auditions
     Auditions for experienced string players to participate in the
University Orchestra will be conducted from 3-5:30 p.m., Monday, Feb.
6, in 311 Amy E. du Pont Music Building. To make an appointment, call

Summer internship
     The Department of Housing and Conference Services is offering an
internship in conference management for 13 weeks- approximately 450
hours-from June 5-Aug. 11.
     Some weekend work is required. The pay rate is $5.25 per hour,
plus overtime.

information and/or an application. The deadline date is Feb. 28.


Snow day child care
     The YWCA Newark Center, in collaboration with the Chesapeake Bay
Girl Scout Council, is providing snow day child-care service. The
program is offered to children from kindergarten through sixth grade.
University of Delaware families receive a discounted rate. Space is
limited and advance registration is required. For information, call

Stop smoking
     The Employee Wellness Center will offer a smoking cessation
workshop beginning Feb. 13. The six-session workshop will be led by a
registered nurse from the Medical Center of Delaware. Follow-up
components- addressing maintenance of weight after smoking cessation
and designing an exercise program to meet participant needs-will be
offered.
     The workshop will be offered from 5-6 p.m., Mondays and
Wednesdays, Feb. 13, 15, 20, 22 and 27 and March 1, in 118 Sharp
Laboratory.
     In addition to these sessions, a follow-up meeting-with the date
and time to be scheduled at the convenience of the participants-will
occur about a month after the workshop, led by a nurse from the
Medical Center of Delaware.
     Workshop fee is $50, with $25 paid by the employee and $25 from
UD Wellness Dollars. The sessions originally scheduled for January

Library hours
     Library hours for the period through Feb. 2 are 8 a.m.-10 p.m.,
Mondays-Thursdays; 8 a.m.-6 p.m., Fridays; 9 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturdays;
and 11 a.m.-10 p.m., Sundays.


4-H programs
     New Castle County 4-H is offering winter workshops for children
ages 8 and above.
     Scheduled workshops include CPR, Jan. 21; Shooting Sports, Jan.
28; First Aid, Feb. 11; Large Animals, Feb. 18 and March 11;
Horticulture, Feb. 25 and March 11; Fashion Planning, Feb. 25; Child
Care/Babysitting, March 11; Bonsai, March 18; and Sewing, March 18.
     All workshops will be held at the College of Agricultural
Sciences, except for Shooting Sports, which will be taught at the
Ommelanden Shooting Range on Route 9 in New Castle.
     Registration will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.

Dialing changes
     Dialing procedures for some local calls and all toll calls
originating from the Delaware area code 302 changed in early January.
The changes were made to alleviate the nationwide shortage of area
codes.
     Instate toll calls previously dialed on a 1 + 7 digit basis are
now dialed with 1 + 302 + 7 digits. In addition, all calls from the
Delaware area code 302 to another area code in southeastern
Pennsylvania are also to be dialed with 1 + area code + 7 digits.
Rates will not change for these calls. For directory assistance for
numbers within the 302 area code, dial 555-1212.


B&G Club events
     The Blue and Gold Club has scheduled several events for January
and February, including Senior Citizens nights, Jan. 19, Feb. 2 and
16; an African-American buffet, Jan. 26; an Italian buffet, Feb. 9; a
Valentine's Day celebration, Feb. 14; a cooking class, Feb. 20; and a
Family Night buffet, Feb. 23.

Hate crimes forum
     A program on "Hate Crimes and Harassment" wil be held at 7:30
p.m., Monday, Jan. 23, at the Delaware Theatre Company, 200 Water St.,
Wilmington.
     H. Geoffrey Moulton of Widener Univesity Law School will lead a
pane exploring the issues of hate crimes and harassment. The program
is free and open to the public.
