Prof's library challenge brings $19,000+ in gifts
The Marvin Sussman Challenge Gift of $10,000 attracted an
additional $19,276.33 in gifts and pledges for the University Library,
according to John Clayton, assistant director of University
Development.
"We are grateful for Prof. Sussman's generosity, as well as that
of our staff and friends," Clayton said.
Sussman, Unidel Professor Emeritus of Human Behavior, had offered
to meet every gift or pledge to the University Library, made before
Dec. 31, up to a total of $10,000. The challenge was open to
participants from the University community and the public.
Gifts and pledges from faculty and staff totaled $10,510.50;
gifts from alumni and friends totaled $7,430.83; and gifts from the
public totaled $1,335.
"I am delighted so many individuals gave to the library,
including those who gave for the first time," Sussman said. "I hope
they will follow up by becoming famliar with the library and
supporting it. The effort went so well that it is worth considering
doing it again."
Susan Brynteson, director of the University Library, said, "I
deeply appreciate the generosity and support the University community
and the public have shown under the outstanding leadership and example
of Marvin Sussman."
Charles Forbes, vice president for development and alumni
relations said, " I am so pleased with the response that we received
from the Sussman library challenge. The generosity of our faculty,
staff, alumni and friends has been most rewarding, and I appreciate
the interest in and devotion to the Morris Library indicated by this
campaign."
