        Vice President for Employee Relations
Re: 1994 Merit Award Program, Professionals and Salaried Staff

I am pleased to announce that we will soon be seeking nominations
for the 1994 Professional and Salaried Staff Merit Award Program.
The program recognizes outstanding individual contributions to
the University and consists of a one-time cash award not
builconsultation with PAC, meritorious professionals will continue to
receive merit awards of $1,000; up to 50 professionals will be
eligible for merit consideration. Salaried staff, through their SSAC
representatives, have again requested that the $50,000 allocations for
their award program be made available as $500 awards for up to 100
salaried staff.
Each vice president will announce the nomination process that
will be followed in his or her respective units. It is important that
we have a broad pool of nominees and I encourage your participation in
the process. To that end, information on the program guidelines are
printed below, together with a sample nomination form. Your assistance
in identifying colleagues who have contributed richly to the
University during the past year is encouraged.
A reception will be held on May 5, to recognize this year's award
recipients and their names will also be published in UpDate.
If you have any questions concerning implementation of the merit
award program, please call Bill Bachman at 831-2171.
