U.S. judge to address UD winter graduates
U.S. District Judge Sue Lewis Robinson, a UD alumna, will be
featured speaker at the University's 1995 Winter Commencement,
scheduled at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, in the Bob Carpenter
Sports/Convocation Center on the Newark campus.
Also at the ceremony, Medals of Distinction will be presented to
Leonard W. Quill, Delaware '58, '66MBA and chairman, president and
chief executive officer of Wilmington Trust Co.; and Bernard C.
Watson, chairman of the board of the Healthcare Management
Alternatives Foundation in Philadelphia and former president and chief
executive officer of the William Penn Foundation in Philadelphia.
The Medal of Distinction is presented by the University in
recognition of outstanding professional achievements.
Each year, Winter Commencement recognizes students who complete
their degree requirements in August and December. Attendance at
graduation is voluntary, but those participating in the ceremony must
wear academic regalia.
Robinson served as assistant U.S. attorney for the district of
Delaware from 1983 until 1988, when she became the U.S. magistrate
judge for the district of Delaware. In 1991, she was appointed by
President George Bush to serve as a judge in the U.S. District Court
for the district of Delaware.
A 1974 UD graduate, she earned a law degree from the University
of Pennsylvania Law School in 1978.
Robinson has been a member of the Delaware State Bar Association,
Federal Bar Association, Delaware Trial Lawyers Association and the
American Inns of Court. She also has served on the Board of Directors
of the Delaware Curative Workshop and as a member of the United Way
Government Relations Committee.
She has received numerous commendations for her work in areas
such as Medicare fraud and land condemnation and, in 1988, was
presented the Inspector General's Integrity award by the U.S.
Department of Health and Human Services.
In May, Robinson was one of five alumni inducted into the
University's Wall of Fame, a photographic exhibit in the Alumni Room
of the Perkins Student Center that recognizes alumni achievements in
many fields.
