Spencer fellowship recipients
The College of Education has garnered a number of prestigious
National Academy of Education (NAE) Spencer fellowships designated for
postdoctoral students and junior faculty over the years. according to
Frank B. Murray, dean and H. Rodney Sharp Professor in the Departments
of Educational Studies and Psychology. The stated goal of the NAE,
supported by the Spencer Foundation, is to "promote scholarly inquiry
and discussion concerning the ends and means of education, in all its
forms in the United States and abroad."
Among those who have received fellowships are Jaana Juvonen,
associate professor, and James Davis, assistant professor, both of
educational studies; Deborah Hicks, associate professor, Zoubeda
Dagher, assistant professor, and Katherine Schultz, assistant
professor, all of educational development. Elaine Coleman, assistant
professor of educational studies and a new faculty member, was a
runner-up last year.
In addition, English professor Joan Del Fattore received a grant
from the Spencer Foundation to carry out research on her study on the
influence of interest groups on American education.
