Public Safety offers RAD course
During a women's self-defense class for instructors, a simulated
assault is made by David Bartolf (left), public safety, upon Ruth
Glazer, User Services, while David Finney, public safety and RAD
instructor trainer, critiques and demonstrates.
Sponsored by the Department of Public Safety and Rape Aggression
Defense Systems Inc. (RAD), the November class was held for three days
to train instructors from the University, the community and area
colleges to teach RAD basic women's self-defense classes on and off
the campus.
During the instructors' class, participants were taught the
underlying principles of the RAD system, including the importance of a
woman's decision to resist or comply. The goal of RAD is to provide
women with gross motor skill defense training that helps them realize
what options are available to them and what physical power they
possess in an assault situation. In addition to learning physical
defense options, women gain a great sense of self-reliance and self-
confidence.
Others from the University participating in the instructors'
class were Mark Stallmann, public safety and Tom Moy, public safety,
Lewes.
Campus classes will be scheduled during spring semester. For
