Black student leaders pledge campus involvement

     A special dinner for black student leaders to involve them in
student recruitment was held Nov. 7 in the Bob Carpenter Club. In all,
90 African-American students attended the event, which was hosted by
the Office of Admissions.
     The program commended students for their leadership and
encouraged their continued support in attracting talented African-
American high school students to the University of Delaware.
     Students signed interest sheets to become Blue Hen Hosts and VAST
(Volunteer Admission Support Team) members and agreed to visit their
former high schools during the holidays to talk to African-American
students about the University. The students also pledged to
participate in special campus programs.
     Bruce Walker, associate provost for admissions and student
financial aid, welcomed the students. Zenobia Hikes, associate
director of admissions, also spoke, and five student organization
presidents talked about their organizations, pledging support to the
University's recruitment efforts.
     Speaking were Myron Neal, president of National Pan-Hellenic
Council; Nakishia Williams, president of the Black Student Union;
Aldustus Jordan, president of the Cultural Programming Advisory Board;
Stacey Jackson, president of the National Society of Black Engineers;
and Harold Ingram, president of the National Student Business League.
     Haillie Lindsey, president of Warriors for Christ, gave the
invocation. Entertainment was provided by students Daletha McRae, who
is Miss Black Student Union, and Michael Gibson, an accomplished
drummer.
