Housing and conference units combined to enhance operations

The University's housing operation, which manages residence hall
maintenance, housekeeping, facilities renewal, marketing and room
assignments, has been combined with the University conferences unit,
which manages the Clayton Hall and Virden conference centers and the
Wilmington campus.
"The decision to bring Dining Services, Housing and Conference
Services-three critical functions for successful conference management
under one administrative unit-will enhance operational effectiveness,
program development and long-term planning," according to David
Hollowell, senior vice president.
"The result will be a more responsive and coordinated operation
for all of the units individually and the University as a whole," he
said.
David G. Butler, who previously served as director of housing and
residence life, has been named executive director of the new unit,
which has been named the Office of Housing and Conference Services,
reporting to the Office of the Senior Vice President.
The Division of Continuing Education, which formerly managed the
conferences operation, has been refocused under the direction of
Richard Fischer, now associate provost for continuing and distance
education.
Under the reorganization, Fischer's energies are concentrated on
supporting academic units in the development of part-time degree and
professional development programs, institutes and certificate
programs. In addition, he is focusing on coordination of the
University's rapidly growing distance education programs.
The residence life function, which manages educational programs
and student behavior, will remain in the Division of Student Life,
with continuing direction from Cynthia Cummings, associate director of
residence life.
The staff in housing and residence life, as well as those staff
members in continuing education and conferences, continue their
interdependent activities. Office and phone numbers remain the same.
