Hoop teams ready for 1994-95 season openers

The University of Delaware men's and women's basketball teams
have completed their first few weeks of pre-season practices in
preparation for their season openers.
Women's head coach Joyce Perry, beginning her 17th year at
Delaware, will lead her team into its first of two exhibition games at
7 tonight against the Strakonice team of the Czech Republic in the Bob
Carpenter Center.
The second exhibition game will be against the Women's Basketball
Alliance, at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20, in Delaware Field House.
The women's team's 1994-95 season officially starts Nov. 26 at
Delaware State University. Its home season begins Nov. 28 against
Washington College.
The Blue Hen men, who will be led for the 10th year by head coach
Steve Steinwedel, will host two exhibitions-at 7:30 p.m., Thursday,
Nov. 17, with the Pardubice team from the Czech Republic, and at 7:30
p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, against DePersia-Coralluzo. Both will be
played in the Carpenter Center.
The men's season begins officially on Saturday, Nov. 26, at
Delaware State University. The men's team opens at home at 5:45 p.m.,
Monday, Nov. 28, against St. Joseph's University.
The Delaware men returned all but one letter-winner from last
year's team that posted a record of 14-13 and placed fifth in the
North Atlantic Conference (NAC) with a 7-7 record.
Led by two-time All-NAC guard Brian Pearl, the Blue Hens will be
looking to return to the NCAA tournament, in which they appeared in
1992 and 1993 after winning the NAC title.
The UD women, led by All-NAC center Colleen McNamara, lost just
two players from last year's squad that posted a 10-17 record and
placed fifth in the NAC with a 7-7 mark. The Hens look to be a strong
contender for the NAC crown and the team's first-ever NCAA tournament
berth.
Season and individual game tickets are now on sale. Each full-
time student may pick up one free ticket per basketball game on the
day of the game by showing his or her UD#1 Card. Depending on ticket
sales, a student may purchase tickets for adjoining seats at the
regular prices.
Tickets are available at the Bob Carpenter Center ticket office
from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Monday-Saturday, and at the Perkins Student
Center from noon-6 p.m., Monday-Friday.
Tickets for general public are $5 for end zone seats, $6 for
bleacher seats, $7 for chair back seats and $8 for center court seats.
Single game tickets can be purchased at the Bob Carpenter Center box
office or by calling Ticketmaster at 984-2000.
Some season tickets for faculty/staff are still available at a

current basketball season, but there are still some chair back tickets
and wing tickets available at discount prices. These may be purchased
