Letter from the President

                                                 November 1994

     Dear Colleagues,

Last year, I wrote concerning the University's commitment to
be an inclusive campus, one that provides an open and
hospitable climate for students, faculty and staff from
different racial and ethnic backgrounds and with differing
     sexual orientations.

I am pleased to report that the 1993-1994 year saw a number
of new initiatives that promoted this spirit of inclusivity.
They included a daylong seminar at Arsht Hall in support of
issues affecting members of the gay, lesbian and bisexual
community at institutions of higher education. The
participants reaffirmed the University of Delaware's support
for all members of the student body, faculty and staff. It
is important that we continue our efforts to ensure that
every member of the University community feels in full
measure the support they need to be effective contributors
     to the University's mission.

Our personal commitment continues to be to a University of
Delaware that is a welcoming and safe place for all members
of our University community. We appreciate the good efforts
of the many faculty, staff and students who are helping the
University attain this fundamentally important goal.

                                                 Sincerely,

                                                 David P. Roselle
                                                 President
