Fall concerts; Campus ministries feature Christian music series

A series of contemporary Christian concerts is planned for the
fall, sponsored by Denominational Campus Ministries.
The Sunday Series includes concerts in Mitchell Hall by Steve
Taylor and Mitchel Dane and a mega-concert at the Bob Carpenter Center
featuring Susan Ashton, Margaret Becker, Christine Dente and Out of
the Grey.
Taylor, the man Newsweek called "evangelical rock's court jester"
opens the series with a 7:30 p.m. concert on Sunday, Sept. 18, in
Mitchell Hall. The program includes a full evening of the top
alternative/rock bands in the Christian music scene.
Appearing with Taylor is Dakoda Motor Co., hot off release of its
second album, Welcome Race Fans. Dakoda has been featured in Chevy
truck ads, and the group's lead guitar player, Peter King, is known as
the spokesperson for Billabong surfing gear and attire.
Rounding out the evening is the Canadian band Hokus Pick, whose
just-released album Brothers from Different Mothers was performed to
wild acclaim at the Christian rock concert Creation '94, held in June
in Mt. Union, Pa.
Tickets are $12 in advance and $15 at the door. There is an
advance group rate of $10 per person for groups of l0 or more. Advance
tickets are available through area Christian bookstores-including the
Salty Fisherman on Churchmans Road, Newark, 368-7002; Sonshine House
in Peoples Plaza, Glasgow, 834-1013; and the Lighthouse Bookstore,
Route 141, Wilmington, 998-0481-and at St. Thomas' Episcopal Church,
on South College Avenue in Newark, 368-4644.
The concert planned for the Carpenter Center is scheduled at 7:30
p.m., Sunday, Oct. 23, featuring Christian music's creme de la creme-a
trio consisting of Contemporary Christian Music Magazine's readers'
choice best artist nominee Susan Ashton, four-time Grammy nominee
Margaret Becker and Christine Dente from the Dove Award-nominated duo
Out of the Grey.
Their performance will be followed by a full concert set by Out
of the Grey, regarded by fans and critics alike as the hottest
acoustic pop duo in or out of Christian music.
The Sunday Series concludes on Sunday, Nov. 13, when Mitchel Dane
performs a benefit concert for Habitat for Humanity in Mitchell Hall.
The concert, at a time to be announced, is co-sponsored by Episcopal
Campus Ministry and Young Life of Northern Delaware.
