'Lunch and Learn' series scheduled for employees

     The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program will offer "Lunch and
Learn" programs twice a month to all University employees. These
programs are designed to assist individuals in maintaining a healthy
lifestyle physically, mentally and emotionally.
     All workshops will be held from noon-1 p.m. Participants are
encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch. Beverages will be provided.
     Registration is required for all programs. For information or to
register, call Darlene Sharp at 831-8308. Following is a list of the
fall programs.

Prostate cancer
     "It is the Size of a Walnut and Can Kill You" will provide
information about prostate cancer, which is easily detected and cured
with early intervention. Tim Herman, a volunteer from the American
Cancer Society, will lead the program scheduled Wednesday, Sept. 21,
in the Kirkwood Room of the Perkins Student Center. Registration
deadline is Sept. 16.

Abusive relationships
     "What We Should Know and What We Can Do About Abusive
Relationships" will provide information about violence in intimate
relationships. Presenters are Mary Davis, counselor at the Battered
Women's Shelter of Child Inc., and Carol Post, program coordinator,
Victim Advocacy Program. They will offer suggestions on how to
recognize signs of abuse and where to go for help. The program, which
is co-sponsored by the Office of Women's Affairs, will be held Monday,
Sept. 26, in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center.

Performing artists
     "AbleArts," a lunch-time performance, will feature the AbleArts
players, who integrate individuals with and without disabilities in
the performing arts. Gene Dean, a University staff member, will read
his poetry and perform an original pantomime/dance entitled Seasons
with Marty Gorin.
     This performance, co-spoonsored by the Americans with
Disabilities Act coordinator, will be held Wednesday, Oct. 5, in the
Collins Room of the Perkins Student Center. A question-and-answer
session will follow the performance. Registration must be made by
Sept. 30.

Breast Cancer fair
     October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the
University will sponsor a Breast Cancer/Health Fair, which will
include panel discussions, information on breast examination, risk
factors and information on services available to those who are
diagnosed with the most common form of cancer in American women.
     The fair, which is co-sponsored by Student Health Services,
Office of Women's Affairs, Wellspring and Residence Life, will be held
from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, in the Rodney Room of the
Perkins Student Center.

Elder care
     "Caring for Older Family Members" is a two-part series that
covers topics on support networks, financial, legal, housing concerns
and services for older family members.
     The first part involves a panel discussion on Wednesday, Oct. 19,
in the Collins Room of the Perkins Student Center, with
representatives from the Delaware Division of Aging. Registration must
be made no later than Oct. 14.
     The second part of the series will be held Wednesday, Nov. 9, in
the Collins Room of the Perkins Student Center. A volunteer from
Delaware Volunteer Legal Services Inc. will discuss legal
considerations for the elderly and their caregivers. Registration is
required by Nov. 4.

Balancing act
     "Balancing Work and Personal Life" will explore maintaining a
sense of humor, being organized and learning to say "no" to alleviate
the pressures associated with work and a personal life.
     Donna Tuites, coordinator in the Office of Women's Affairs, will
facilitate a discussion Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the Collins Room of the
Perkins Student Center.
     Registration for this workshp which is co-sponsored by the Office
of Women's Affairs, must be made no later than Nov. 28.

Stress management
     December, a time of final exams and the holiday season, is
especially stressful. "Stress Management," the final workshop of the
fall "Lunch and Learn" series, will help participatns learn to cope
with pressure.
     Charles Beale, associate director of the Center for Counseling
and Student Development, will show how to identify stressors and offer
some techniques on how to manage stress.
     This program will be held Wednesday, Dec. 14, in the Collins Room
of the Perkins Student Center. Registration must be made no later than
Dec. 9.
