History doctoral student named fellow
Gabrielle Lanier, a doctoral student in the History of American
Civilization Program and a graduate of the Winterthur Program in Early
American Culture, has been selected as one of four early American
studies fellows by the Philadelphia Center for Early American Studies
at the University of Pennsylvania. She will receive a dissertation
fellowship, participate in the scholarly activities of the center and
present a public paper in 1995.
Her dissertation examines the emergence of a regional identity in
the Delaware Valley through landscape and architecture during the
early national period. Her dissertation director is Bernard L. Herman,
associate professor of art history and associate director of the
Center for Historic Architecture and Engineering in the College of
Urban Affairs and Public Policy.
