Nursing Day Oct. 26
     Career Planning and Placement will be holding its annual Nursing Day
from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26, in Clayton Hall.
     Representatives from more than 50 hospitals, rehabilitation centers
and governmental health organizations will be present.

Pumpkin contest
     A pumpkin decorating contest will be held from 1-4 p.m., Wednesday,
Oct. 27, in Kent Dining Hall.
     Students will be able to create an original Halloween pumpkin and win
$25, which will be deposited in the winner's FLEX account.
     Pumpkins, paints and brushes will be provided. Judging will be held at
1 p.m., Friday, Oct. 29.

Library Associates
     Faculty, staff and students are invited to join the University of
Delaware Library Associates. This non-profit organization assists in
expanding and enriching the research collections of the Morris Library.
Annual memberships begin at $25, with a special student rate of $5 per
year.
     Activities and bebefits of membership include invitations to the
annual dinner lecture, the June lecture program and a monthly newsletter.

Health profile
     In an effort to develop a wellness program specifically designed for
its employees, the University invites all employees to have a health
profile completed. This profile includes filling out a short questionnaire
and having blood preassure, body composition and cholesterol measured free
of charge at one of three sites on campus.
     Based on information, each employee will receive an immediate
computerized report that may be discussed with a counselor. In addition,
there will be free handouts on health-related topics.

Chess club forming
     A meeting will be held at 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the Kirkwood
Room, on the second floor of the Perkins Student Center, for individuals
interested in forming a chess club on campus. Everyone is welcome.

Club Halloween fest
     The Blue and Gold Club will host a Halloween party from 7-10 p.m.,
Friday, Oct. 29. Members are encouraged to attend, wear a costume and join
friends for an evening of music, prizes, dancing and ghoulish treats. A
buffet dinner will be served until 9 p.m.
     The cost of the buffet and party is $14.50 per person ($12.50 in
costume), $7.50 for children under 10 ($6.50 in costume). Children under 3
are free.
     Club membership is required. All University employees are eligible.
First-time members receive a $10 discount on their first year's dues.

Housing closings
     All students who currently reside on campus and who will be away from
Newark during spring semester must cancel in writing their residence hall
agreement no later than Dec. 22 to avoid being billed $100 for late
cancellation.
     University residence halls will close at 10 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 22,
unless a student has a final examination that night. In such a situation,
the student must contact the hall director or assistant area coordinator of
his or her building, to arrange to stay until 10 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 23.
     Residence halls will re-open at 2 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 2, for students
who are enrolled in Winter Session.

Directory changes
     Several errors were printed in the 1993/94 campus directory. Following
are phone number corrections.
     On page 31, the English Language Institute (189 West Main St.) should
read extension 2674. Also on page 31, the correct phone number for English
As a Second Language is extension 2674.
     On page 34, the correct number for College of Marine Studies, Sandra
Goodley, office supervisor, is extension 2841.
     Remaining corrections are name and title changes. On page 34, in the
College of Marine Studies, Charles E. Epifanio is associate dean; Juanita
Gary is staff assistant. On page 26, the correct name of the chairperson of
the Department of Art History is Damie Stillman.

Thanks for teachers
     The Education Alumni Association will hold its sixth annual Thank
Goodness for Teachers (TGFT) celebration from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Friday, Nov.
5, at the Crabber's Cove in Dewey Beach.
     Delaware Representative John R. Schroeder will present a tribute to
Delaware educators. There will be refreshments, music, favors and door
prizes.

Hazardous waste
     The Delaware Solid Waste Authority will hold a public collection of
household hazardous waste from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 23, at the
Rollins Building on Route 202, north of Wilmington.
     Any product containers marked with the words, "Warning: Hazardous,"
"Flammable," "Poisonous," "Corrosive" or "Explosive" will be accepted.
Containers with less than 1 inch of material, household batteries, dry
latex paint, "Class A" asbestos and used motor oil will not be accepted.
     This collection event is provided as a public service of Delaware
Solid Waste Authority.
     There is no charge for participation, and all Delaware residents are
eligible.

GCC open house
     The Graphic Communications Center will hold its third annual open
house from 3-5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 28, at 222 South Chapel St. Employees
are invited to see the University's complete copying and printing facility.
