Breast cancer, smoking programs
Breast cancer and smoking will be the focus of two upcoming programs
on the campus featuring representatives from the American Cancer Society.
The Faculty and Staff Assistance Program and the American Cancer
Society will sponsor a panel discussion on breast cancer from noon-1:30
p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, in the Kirkwood Room of the Perkins Student
Center.
Breast cancer is the most common form of cancer in American women.
Because of genetic and lifestyle differences, some women are at greater
risk than others.
Panelists will discuss the importance of early detection, risk factors
and services available for those who are diagnosed with breast cancer.
Speaking will be Emily Penman, American Cancer Society; Pam Eppes, a
nurse at the Medical Center of Delaware; Julianne Hammond, an attorney with
American Cancer Society Society Reach to Recovery; and Jennifer Powell, a
member of New Castle County Chamber American Cancer Society's Newark Unit
Board.
Registration is required by Monday, Oct. 25, and may be made by

A stop smoking program, "The Butt Stops Here," also is being offered.
A speaker from the American Cancer Society will discuss the dangers of
smoking and offer methods to help individuals who wish to quit smoking from
12:10-1 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 3, in the Collins Room of the Perkins Student
Center.
