Introducing the University of Delaware...

Enthusiasm, friendliness, the ability to think quickly, reliability
and a knowledge of the University of Delaware are the qualifications needed
to become a Blue Hen Host, according to Faye Duffy, associate director of
admissions and coordinator of the guide program.
The Blue Hen Hosts, numbering more than 60 sophomores, juniors and
seniors, are a visible presence on campus, conducting tours for future
students and their parents.
Approximately, 3,000 to 3,500 prospective students and families took
tours through the Visitors Center last year, in addition to those who
visited the University through other programs. Their impression of the
University depends to a large extent on the campus tour, Duffy said.
The hosts, who are representative of the student body, are selected in
the spring and are trained the following fall. According to Duffy, they do
a good job escorting visitors around campus and fielding questions, ranging
from the food to social life to safety concerns.
"We ask our visitors to fill out an evaluation form, including a
section on the guides, and, in general, the hosts get high marks. Some
visitors have commented that the Delaware tour is the best college tour
they have attended," Duffy said.
