Early success of Employee Annual Campaign continues
The Employee Annual Campaign is 71 percent ahead of the same period
last year, according to Charles Forbes, vice president for development and
alumni relations.
The number of participants during the first quarter of the campaign is
up 19 percent, also well ahead of last year, he said.
"I want each person who has made a pledge or gift to know just how
grateful we are for their support," Forbes said. "It's apparent, with this
demonstration of genuine interest in strengthening programs and providing
additional funds, that the University's employees are among its best
friends.
"Employee gifts are important to the continued vitality of the
University," Forbes said.
Gifts or pledges totaling $48,148 were received after the first three
months of the F.Y. '94 solicitation, compared with $28,118 last year. Over
90 percent of the total contributions will come through payroll deduction.
Wanda Simons, coordinator of annual giving, explained that, with three
options for giving-outright gift, pledge through payroll deduction or
standard pledge with a reminder later in the year-University employees are
supporting areas of special interest and making discretionary funds
available for colleges, departments and programs.
There still is an opportunity for employees to join in the campaign.
According to Simons, payroll deduction may be started this fall.
Outright contributions are welcome any time through the June 30, 1994
end of the fiscal/giving year, she said.
For the first time in the Employee Annual Campaign's three-year
history, there is a committee of college representatives to promote giving
within, and to, the University's 10 colleges.
College representatives met in September to plan additional
promotional programs to encourage support for the college campaigns during
the remaining months of the year.
These college representatives are Dennis Collins, agricultural
sciences; John R. Mather, arts and science; Donald Puglisi, MBNA America
Business Professor of Finance, business and economics; Sue Fuhrman,
education; Benson Cook, engineering; Marvin Sussman, Unidel Professor
Emeritus of Human Behavior, human resources; John Gallagher, marine
studies; Evelyn Hayes, nursing; Barbara Viera, physical education,
athletics and recreation; and Mary Helen Callahan, urban affairs and public
policy.
Employees working in areas with college representatives should contact
them about the campaign, and other employees can contact Simons at
831-2104, or through electronic mail, Wanda.Simons @MVS.UDEL.EDU.
According to Forbes, "Current operations as well as capital projects
are designations of employee gifts, and, ultimately, the beneficiaries are
our students and the enhanced educational experience they receive.
Employees can be proud of the impact they are making through their
collective gifts."
