Dress up for 'Costume Ball'

The Community Progressive Club of New Castle, will hold its first-ever
Costume Ball from 10 p.m.-2 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19, at the Holiday Inn
Downtown in Wilmington.
The club, located at 116 West Third St. in New Castle, supports
programs that assist members of the community, such as adult computer
training and financial counseling. It also serves as a meeting site for
community groups.
The main purpose of the upcoming ball is to raise money for the club's
eight-year-old tutoring program. At the end of last May, nearly 50 students
and close to three dozen volunteers were participating in tutoring
sessions. These sessions are designed to meet the individual needs and
improve the academic abilities of individual area students.
Proceeds from the Costume Ball will be used to expand the tutoring
program to involve more schools, attract additional students and purchase
much-needed equipment, such as desks, chairs and computers.
According to Littleton P. Mitchell, Costume Ball chairperson, in order
to be admitted to the evening's event, each participant must be dressed in
a complete costume. Also, he stressed, no professional uniform-type
clothing-such as law enforcement, medical or military garb-can be worn.
Live music will be provided by the Howell Quintet. Door prizes will be
distributed and breakfast will be served at 1 a.m. Tickets are $40 each and
may be purchased by calling 843-7952. The reservation deadline is Oct. 29.
