University Policy #7-27 protects individuals from the hazards associated
with the use of chemicals.
All University operations, including classroom activities involving
the use of hazardous chemicals, are subject to this regulation.
Training must be conducted before faculty, staff or students use
hazardous materials.
Training sessions must include a discussion of the subjects listed on
the Hazardous Chemical Training Certification form, documentation of the
training must be completed by those giving and receiving training.
All original training forms should be sent to the University's
Department of Occupational Health and Safety upon completion, and current
copies of training certifications should be kept in the departments for one
year.
Hazardous material manuals are available from the Department of
Occupational Health and Safety to aid in training.
Individuals are encouraged to return unwanted, undamaged books to
their instructor/supervisor for reuse to conserve resources and reduce
costs.
The Department of Occupational Health and Safety will conduct training
sessions for supervisors upon request and is available for consultation on
the requirements under the act.
